Full, rich with good depth and concentration of fruit with a hint of spice, liquorice and vanilla. An elegant wine with a lingering finish.
Carpineto was founded in 1967 by Antonio Zaccheo and Giovanni Sacchet and farms 424 hectares of land spread over four estates among Tuscany's most prestigious appellations. The original aim of the producers - to produce modern, world-class red wine from the Chianti Classico appellation (a radical departure when most Chianti was still produced in the traditional wine-making style) - has been admirably fulfilled. Pioneers of internationalism of Tuscany, the Dogajolo is a great example of this ethos of action. Carpineto has been named IWSC Italian Wine Producer Of The Year in 2003 and was the first ever Italian winery ever to win the IWSC International Winemaker Of The Year Trophy in 1994. Antonio Zaccheo is now aided by his son Antonio and daughter Francesca, who both previously worked in the wine trade in the USA. Giovanni Sacchet's daughter, Caterina, has recently joined the Carpineto winemaking team after finishing her viticulture and oenology degree.
Each plot was fermented separately in steel tanks at 25-29°C, with skin contact lasting 10-15 days. After malolactic fermentation, the various crus were blended and aged in new oak barriques for ten months. The wine benefits from a minimum of six months bottle age, prior to release.
2013 was considered to be a more classic vintage, as the harvest took place later than in recent years. The season was marked by a cool, wet spring, followed by cool weather during the early summer. Warm, dry weather during the latter part of the summer encouraged the ripening and maturation of the berries. The resulting wines are harmoniously balanced, with excellent phenolic maturity and delicate bouquets
