Argentina

Argentinian Wines

As the fifth largest wine producer in the world, Argentina has had a reputation for producing quantity rather than quality, but that approach has definitely changed. Argentina has the greatest concentration of high altitude vineyards in the world, which can increase the development of aromatics in the grapes and they can benefit from extended time on the vines without the danger of producing wines which are too big and alcoholic.

Argentina seems to have made an excellent job of making the Malbec grape her own for red wine production, though she is making noteworthy wines from many other indigenous and international varieties as well. In terms of whites, because of the high altitude vineyards she seems to excel at the more aromatic varieties, such as Torrontes, Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc.
