Red Rioja wines are, understandably, very popular as the flavour of the Tempranillo grape, which generally makes up all or most of the blend, offers warm fruit flavours. In this case it is clear to see the difference between the wines from different periods of ageing. White Rioja is also becoming much more fashionable in the UK and Ondarre make a good example of a barrique fermented one.
Artesa Organic - a well made organic red Rioja
Gran Logrado Crianza - aged for a minimum of 2 years of which 6 months was in oak
Gran Logrado Reserva - aged for a minimum of 3 years of which 12 months was in oak
Edulis Crianza Rioja - oaky yet fruity red
Vega del Rayo Vendimia Seleccionada - plenty of fruit with some underlying oak
Hazana Crianza - another well made Crianza Rioja from a different producer
