A number of producers are now making their wines in an organic and/or biodynamic way and are being certified accordingly. Obviously, as with food and many other things, the fewer chemical nasties there are in a product the better. Wine only requires large quantities of chemicals when the grapes that it is made from are not especially healthy and so the chemicals are needed to make the wine vaguely palatable.
Many more producers are continuing to produce their wines in an organic way but are not requesting and paying for the certification as they have produced them organically for years and see no reason to add the cost of the certification on to the cost price of their wine. Many of our wines are from family owned vineyards/wineries where they have always made their wines in an organic way and would not contemplate any other way. We have indicated in each wine's details when they are produced organically but are not yet certified as such.
