Drinks Parties

The wines below are, in our opinion, excellent wines to serve at any drinks party as they are wines that will appeal to many people without breaking the bank! The two Cavas are very well priced as we are importing these ourselves from a family owned winery in Vilafranca del Penedes and they are currently only available from us. Wines for drinks parties need to be easy drinking, with the whites not too acidic and the reds not too heavy or tannic. Of course all of these wines suit many other occasions as well!

Fizz and Whites

1. Marrugat Cava Brut, Pinord £8.50
Spanish sparkling wine made by the same method as Champagne but using traditional Spanish grape varieties and aged for 12 months. This wine has fairly delicate flavours and is fresh and dry. Should be £9.50

2. Marrugat Cava Gran Brut Reserva, Pinord £9.45
As with the Cava Brut but this wine has been aged for 30 months. A lovely aromatic, fresh wine which has good body and the fizz keeps it fresh and lively. Should be £10.50

3. Stella Blanca Dry Muscat 2007 £6.20
This delightful dry white from the Setubal peninsular in Portugal really shows the fresh and fragrant character of the Muscat grape.

4. Cavallina Grillo di Sicilia 2007 £4.95
This wine has a slightly creamy feel to it and is very easy drinking. Pleasant acidity on the finish gives a clean after taste. Should be £6.10.

5. Ademas Viura 2008 £4.86
Beautifully floral on the nose, with notes of tropical fruits and herbs. Refreshingly dry on the palate with great structure and good acidity.

6. Echeverria Sauvignon Blanc 2009 £7.24
This Chilean white is understandably popular! It is bright, lively and fresh with a lasting flavour with hints of ripe green melons and grass.

Reds

7. Broken Shackle Classic Red 2008 £5.45
This well made classic Aussie red is easy drinking with ripe fruit flavours whilst retaining lightness and balance.

8. Clos de Torribas 2006 £6.95
Medium bodied warm, smooth red which is well balanced in terms of fruit to oak. It has rounded, structured tannins and a long finish. We import this wine ourselves so reduced down from £7.60

9. Element of Chateau Civrac Merlot 2007 £7.30
A fruity, modern style of claret, which is soft and approachable. With only 11% ABV this is perfect for either a drinks party or with lunch.

10. Echeverria Carmenère 2007 £7.24
Dark chocolate with sweet fruit on the attack and lovely extract with balanced tannins. This wine has won many awards in the Chilean Wine Challenges.

Attractive glasses including flutes are loaned free of charge with a minimum delivery of 24 bottles of wine. They can be returned dirty but a charge of £3.00 per case or part case will be made. Chipped, cracked or broken glasses are charged at £1.00 per glass.
