Abruzzi is geographically located in central Italy, but from a wine point of view it is thought of as being in Southern Italy. For the most part it is made up of mountainous and wild terrain. Natural reserves protect the typical and local vegetable and animal species of the region, for example, the golden eagle, the wolf and the Marsican brown bear. Known as the greenest region in Italy, the small villages boast monasteries and castles. It has three main DOC areas including DOC’s for both red and white wine and is known for the abundance of uncomplicated wines which it offers.
