A precise wine with citrus and floral aromas with a touch of white peach and grapefruit complemented by a note of minerality and white pepper on the long finish.
Handed down over three centuries, Hubert Thirot is the fourth generation of his family to produce Sancerre from their 13 hectare domain. Situated above the charming hamlet of Bué, the vineyard is planted on the slopes with nine hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and four hectares of Pinot Noir. Hubert produces elegant, modern and richly aromatic wines from his boutique winery.
Winter was gloomy, with abundant rainfall, followed by a cold March. The warmer April weather encouraged budbreak in mid-April. After a wet May, the vines began flowering at the beginning of June. Summer arrived with temperatures reaching heatwave proportions: it was the hottest since 2003. September’s sunny weather helped to maintain the quality potential of the harvest and the excellent-quality Sauvignon Blanc grapes were picked from September 10th.
The vineyard is situated on the slopes overlooking the village of Bué. The wines owe their richness to the clay-limestone and stony soils. Hubert Thirot follows the concept of ‘Conduite Raisonnée’ in the vineyard, which entails a reduction in the use of herbicides and being mindful of the environment. The soil is worked throughout the vineyard and grass is sown between the rows to stimulate the life within the soil, thus improving the vine's natural resistance to disease. The vines have an average age of 35 years and are pruned according to the Guyot Poussard method, which has been adapted from the Guyot Simple method and is aimed at optimising the vine's health.
This Sancerre was made in the traditional style. The grapes were harvested at optimum maturity, destemmed and crushed. Fermentation took place at low temperatures in stainless steel vats to retain the purity of the fruit and the nuances of the Bué terroir. Ageing took place on the lees in stainless steel vats for five months, imparting complexity and texture to the wine. It was gently filtered and fined prior to being bottled.
The nose opens with citrus notes of lemon and orange, followed by a touch of white peach. Refreshing and fruity, with lovely minerality on the finish.
