Producer Note
The Botti family has owned the 20 hectare vineyard for more than 80 years. The vineyard is situated in the southerly part of the Mâconnais in the heart of the Lamartine area. St Véran is produced entirely from Chardonnay grapes and the vines are planted in clay and chalky soils and have a south easterly exposure.
Vineyard
Saint Veran is an appellation for dry white wines produced in the southern half of the Maconnais subregion of Burgundy. Due to its southerly location, the climate in the Saint-Veran area is slightly warmer than other parts of Burgundy. Consequently spring frosts, which can threaten vines in cooler Burgundy appellations, are less of a danger here. The Domaine Botti vineyard soils are made up of limestone.
Winemaking
The grapes were carefully selected, de-stemmed and then pneumatically pressed. Fermentation took place in temperature controlled tanks at 18°C in order to preserve the primary aromas. The wine was kept in stainless steel tanks to maintain the purity of fruit, until bottled.
Tasting Note
A delicate wine with fresh citrus nose and a distinctive minerality. The creamy palate is harmoniously balanced and echoes the mineral notes from the nose, combined with ripe citrus fruits and a crisp, clean finish.
Serving Suggestion
This crisp style accompanies quiche, pan-fried trout or veal scallops in a buttery sauce.
