Formerly the IWC Red Winemaker of the Year and Wine Enthusiast's European Winery of the Year, he is known locally as the "King" of the Languedoc. Brought up in the Languedoc vineyards, Gérard Bertrand is committed to sharing the characteristics and exceptional diversity of each of the terroirs. 20 years of expertise ensures that wines bearing Gérard Bertrand's signature have a unique style, driven by the fundamental values of excellence, authenticity, conviviality and innovation. We are proud to represent this leading French name in the UK.
Vineyard
The Réserve Spéciale range showcases the elegant, generous array of fruity flavours produced by the very best terroirs in the region. The grapes for this Viognier are grown on the cooler terroirs of the untamed hillsides in the Pays d’Oc, where the vines enjoy optimum sunshine and low rainfall, bringing out all the complexity of the region’s emblematic grape variety. The yields are limited in order to concentrate the aromatic potential and the grapes are harvested at full ripeness, so that it expresses its complex varietal characteristics.
Winemaking
The grapes were pressed as soon as they reached the winery and were immediately transferred to temperature controlled stainless steel vats. After static cold settling, alcoholic fermentation took place at low temperatures to preserve the fruity aromatics. The wine did not go through malolactic fermentation, preserving its fresh character.
Tasting NoteAn elegant and aromatic Viognier revealing complex notes of peach, ripe pear and tropical fruits enhanced by subtle overtones of honeysuckle and orange blossom. This is a delicate yet textured Viognier with a lovely rich, smooth palate.
Serving Suggestion
An ideal partner to shellfish, grilled fish or delicately spiced Asian cuisine.
