Tasting Note
Complex aromas of stone fruits, gingerbread and buttery, toasted notes enhance the rich and mouthfilling palate, which has a lovely freshness on the finish.
Producer Note
Nestled in the foothills of the Mont Ventoux, on the Princes of Orange route, is the Domaine de Champ-Long. The sheltered and exceptionally sunny estate covers 30 hectares, straddling the Ventoux and Côtes du Rhône appellations. An exceptional diversity of terroirs contributes to the complexity of these fine wines, which are vinified using methods that fuse traditional skills with modern technology. Owners Béatrice, Christian and Jean-Christophe Gely, cultivate their passion for wine in this beautiful countryside, on the estate which has belonged to the family since 1820.
Vineyard
The vines are grown on sandy slopes at the foot of sandstone outcrops, with a south easterly aspect. Aged between 15 to 25 years, the vines yield 35 hl/ hectare.
Winemaking
Manually harvested, the best grapes were then meticulously selected for this cuvée. The grapes were de-stemmed, crushed, macerated and gently pressed in a pneumatic press, prior to a cold static settling at 10-12°C for 24 to 36 hours. The fermentation took place in new oak 400 litre barrels, with regular lees stirring. The wine was then aged for eight months in new oak 400 litre barrels.
Serving Suggestion
A great food wine, this works well with starters, fish dishes accompanied by a delicate sauce, poultry served in a cream and tarragon sauce, and blue or goats' cheese.
