Château Fortia is a symbolic estate in Châteauneuf du Pape, both for its location and its roots that are closely linked to that of its appellation. In 1929 due to the efforts of Baron Pierre Leroy, Châteauneuf du Pape became the first appellation with a set of winemaking regulations. Today his descendants still continue the proud family tradition.
Since his arrival on the estate a few years ago, Pierre Pastre has strived to make many improvements in the vineyards, including replanting of vines on the correct plots of land to suit the grape variety. The vines are grown in pebbled soils with alluvia.
The grapes were immediately pressed to retain freshness. The juice was then cold settled, prior to the fermentation which took place in temperature controlled tanks, preserving the purity of fruit and aromatics. After racking the wine was aged on its lees in small tanks with regular stirrings. The wine was then bottled during the spring following the harvest.
Deep golden in colour, this is rich, with pronounced mineral notes, dried apricots and hints of spice weaving across the palate.
Chilled to accompany fish and seafood dishes, white meats and creamy pasta or rice dishes.
