Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Chevenottes", Domaine Marc Morey 2017

Producer Note

Domaine Marc Morey was established in 1919 by Ferand Morey and was passed down to his son Marc Morey and subsequently through the generations. In 2003, Marc Morey’s granddaughter, the talented winemaker Sabine Mollard, took over the reins. The old cellar lies under their magnificent house, which was a former coaching inn and Marc Morey's family home for 100 years. Domaine Marc Morey's wines have become renowned worldwide, especially their exquisite Chassagne Montrachets which are elegant, complex and display wonderful minerality.

The 2017 vintage enjoyed favourable weather conditions throughout the growing period. The season was marked by an alternation of warm and sunny days, with rainy and overcast days, which allowed the grapes to ripen gradually. The harvest produced berries with a wonderful balance between sugar and acidity and resulted in wines with rich aromatics and purity of fruit.

The 30 years old vines are trained according to the Guyot system. Great emphasis is placed on working with nature, rigorous debudding and green harvesting to ensure that the vines growth is perfectly balanced. The vineyards are tended according to "la lutte raisonnée" principle of using sustainable agricultural methods and only minimum treatments as required. The complex soil structure is made up of marl, limestone, clay and gravel.

Fermentation began in temperature controlled tanks. The semi-fermented must was transferred into oak barrels, to continue fermentation. The wines were then matured for 10 months in oak barrels, of which 25% was new, before spending one month in vat prior to being bottled.
