Since 1988, the Costa di Bussia winery and vineyards have been owned and managed by the Sartirano family. The estate is located in the Bussia region near the village of Monforte d'Alba. It includes 15 hectares of the famous vineyards of ‘Campo dei Buoi’ and ‘Campo del Gatto’, which produce very special and complex wines.
The vineyard was planted in 1992 and covers just 0.75 hectares. The vines are trained on a trellis system and are south to south east facing, which helps to maximise the sun's exposure, encouraging the grapes to ripen. The soils are predominantly marl and clay, which are naturally loose and are rich in minerals; ideal for Chardonnay which thrives in these types of soils.
The grapes were gently pressed and fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. Following fermentation, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation, which resulted in this appealing, softer style of wine. The wine was left to rest for six months on its fine lees, in stainless steel tanks which added texture and complexity while preserving the fruity characteristics.
A rich, elegant and soft Chardonnay showing bright notes of mango combined with delicate notes of ripe pears and apricots. Textured, with mineral characters on the palate and toasty biscuit note on the finish.
A structured Chardonnay which accompanies hors d'oeuvres, shellfish, grilled white meats and blue cheese.
