Producer Note

Michele Chiarlo is one of Piedmont's truly great winemakers. The family owns 60 hectares of vineyard in three of the classic growing areas - Langhe, Monferrato and Gavi and have access to a further 50 hectares through long-term relationships with their growers. Michele has insisted on total quality since his first vintage in 1956, an ethos which his sons Stefano and Alberto adopt today. The Chiarlo style is highly elegant, they make complex wines that can age for decades but above all reflect their provenance - some of the finest vineyard sites in Piedmont.

Vineyard

The grapes are grown in a vineyard facing east and southeast, which optimises the vine's exposure to the sun. The vines are planted in white soils which are mainly composed of limestone and a small amount of clay, which help to impart elegance and freshness to the resulting wine.

Winemaking

The grapes were harvested at optimal maturity and the clusters were sorted. Fermentation took place in temperature controlled vats and rested in vat for three months to retain the freshness and aromatic qualities of the Cortese variety, prior to being bottled.

Tasting Note

Bright and modern, this is a floral and fruity Gavi showcasing appealing aromas of exotic fruits and white peach. It is harmonious and refreshing on the palate with a pleasing roundness and an elegant finish.

Serving Suggestion

This is a great match for grilled king prawns with a honey and lemon dressing; salmon and vegetable tempura.
