Producer Note

Bodegas Resalte de Peñafiel is an award-winning boutique winery specialising in wines produced from Tempranillo. Established in 2000, it is located in Peñafiel in the heart of the DO Ribera del Duero. They source their grapes from 80 hectares vines - among them some of the finest vineyards in Ribera – which deliver a diversity of terroirs, enabling them to achieve remarkable complexity in their wines. Since its inception, Bodegas Resalte de Peñafiel has adopted the philosophy of making fine wines of the highest quality, combining state-of-the-art winemaking with traditional methods in the vineyards to craft modern, complex and balanced wines.

Vineyard

The grapes come from carefully selected vineyards, from vines with an average age of 15 years. The vines are carefully cultivated throughout the year, with patience, specialised craftsmanship and manual work. Emphasis is placed on keeping the vine healthy, with winter pruning, bunch thinning, and shoot thinning all taking place to capture the personality of the terroir. The grapes are hand-harvested. They follow a philosophy of keeping yields low and strive to keep the soils healthy, which allows the production of a sharp, modern fruit-forward expression of the Tempranillo grape.

Winemaking

Vinification takes place purely by gravity, without the use of pumps and a philosophy of minimal intervention is followed to respect the characteristics of the fruit and its provenance. Fermentation took place at carefully controlled temperatures of no more than 26°C to allow it to take place gradually and evenly. Fermentation was followed by two weeks extended maceration which imparted an interesting and original balance to the wine. The wine was matured in a combination of French and American oak barrels for five months.

Tasting Note

Expressive aromas of red fruits, sweet cherry and hints of liquorice are enhanced by harmonious oaky undertones. A modern wine with a smooth texture and a good weight, the ripe fruits are carried across the palate with delicious hints of spice through to a long finish.

Serving Suggestion

A versatile wine, this accompanies tapas, barbecued chicken wings, roasted ham or grilled aubergine dishes.
