Tasting Note
Overflowing with juicy notes of cranberry, redcurrants, soft red liquorice and hints of rose, the gentle tannins hold it all together seamlessly.
Producer Note
Established by Kym Teusner and Michael Page in 2001, Teusner’s philosophy is to produce only exceptional, affordable wines by being very selective about the fruit, which is sourced from old, well maintained vineyards in Barossa. These vineyards reliably produce balanced, complex fruit which are guided, with minimal input, into stunning wines. Kym decided to make the Righteous Shiraz because he wanted to showcase his own expression of what he considers the ultimate Barossa Valley Shiraz style...intense, powerful and long-lived.
Vineyard
The highlight here is the age of the Grenache vines, which are between 65 to 130 years old and are mostly in bush vine format, on their own rootstocks. The fruit is sourced from several subregions, but Ebeneezer has the oldest vines - the exact age of the vines is not one hundred per cent certain, suffice to say that three generations have seen them grow.
Winemaking
Oak was not used in the vinification of this blend in an effort to retain freshness and vibrancy. The Joshua wine was blended straight after the vintage in the tank, followed by naturally occurring malolactic fermentation and was then sulphured and settled. As soon as it was clarified, it was bottled in order to preserve its freshness. Both Grenache and Mataro have the ability to taste beautiful in youth and as they age, they become more interesting, developing savoury and earthy profiles.
Serving Suggestion
This is delicious served slightly chilled with rich Indian curries or gourmet burgers.
