Gérard Bertrand is one of the most outstanding winemakers in the South of France, where he owns numerous estates among the most prestigious crus of Languedoc Roussillon. Formerly the IWC Red Winemaker of the Year and Wine Enthusiast's European Winery of the Year, he is known locally as the "King" of the Languedoc. Brought up in the Languedoc vineyards, Gérard Bertrand is committed to sharing the characteristics and exceptional diversity of each of the terroirs. 20 years of expertise ensures that wines bearing Gérard Bertrand's signature have a unique style, driven by the values of excellence, authenticity, conviviality and innovation. In 2020, Gérard Bertrand was awarded Green Personality of the Year, by the Drinks Business Green Awards.
2020 will be remembered for its extraordinarily changeable climate. The mild, wet winter generously replenished groundwater reserves, allowing budbreak to occur early. The warm, wet spring beat all records for temperatures and rainfall, stimulating intense growth, good foliage development and early flowering. The typically Mediterranean summer, with the absence of rain and high temperatures, allowed the vines to mature serenely. Harvesting began on August 18th, 10 days ahead of usual, with each variety being picked at optimal maturity. 2020 promises to be an exceptional vintage.
Driven by a life-long passion for the beautiful landscapes of the South of France, Gérard Bertrand’s Naturalys collection is a range of wines produced entirely from organic grapes from the Pays d'Oc. Gérard Bertrand's commitment to sustainable agriculture has been recognised with the ECOCERT certification, guaranteeing organic production, environmentally-friendly packaging and a low carbon footprint. The grapes are grown in a clay-limestone soil; the clay proportion offers excellent water retention properties which helps to nourish the vines through the warm summers experienced in the Mediterranean, while the limestone component imparts elegance to the resulting wine. The grapes are hand-harvested at optimal maturity.
The organic grapes were carefully selected. The fruit was de-stemmed and fermented with selected and wild yeasts. Maceration lasted for 10 to 15 days in temperature controlled stainless steel vats, with frequent pump-overs to extract the fruit’s rich aromas, fine tannins and colour. The wine was aged in stainless steel tanks, without oak influence, in order to display the purest expression of Pinot Noir and was bottled after six months to retain freshness.
An elegant and velvety smooth wine, with intense fruity aromas of ripe cherry and wild raspberry, complemented by spicy nuances. Beautifully balanced, with fine tannins enveloping the pure fruit flavours through to a silky finish.
