Producer Note
Domaine des Pourthié is an estate of 60 hectares, situated near Agde, a few kilometres from the Mediterranean. It is now in the hands of the fourth generation of the Pourthié family. The vineyards are located on a ridge formed during the Ice Age, where the soils are gravelly clay and limestone. The Mediterranean warmth and sea breezes combined with the terroir, help to ripen the grapes harmoniously and maximise their aromas. The winery has recently been updated with modern equipment, leading to more sophisticated methods of vinification. These are classically styled Languedoc wines.
Vineyard
The grapes are grown in gravelly clay-limestone soils, which were formed during the Ice Age, and are dispersed with deposits from the ancient Hérault riverbed.
Winemaking
The grapes were macerated on the skins extracting flavour, aromas and fine tannins. Fermentation took place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the fruity varietal characteristics of Cabernet Sauvignon and lasted for two
weeks.
Tasting Note
A deeply coloured Cabernet Sauvignon with pronounced aromas of blackcurrant, black cherries and subtle notes of coffee. Smooth and velvety, the tannins are beautifully integrated and envelop the spicy fruit through to a deliciously smoky finish.
Serving Suggestion
Delicious with grilled red meat, game and rich flavoursome sauces.
