Producer Note
Château Mérigot is a splendid domain situated at the highest elevation of the Côtes de Bourg appellation looking over the Gironde estuary on the right bank of Bordeaux. Renowned winemaker Dominique Raimond acquired the property in 2008, having researched the best soils and terroirs. The vineyard comprises predominantly Merlot and Malbec and is cultivated according to sustainable philosophies. Dominique is experimenting with part vinification in wooden egg shaped fermenters, resulting in wines which are intensely flavoured while retaining suppleness and elegance.
Vineyard
The vineyard sits on a beautiful sun-drenched plateau in the appellation of Côtes de Bourg on the right bank of Bordeaux. Merlot and Malbec vines are planted at 5,000 plants per hectare in clay gravel soils. The vineyard is managed sustainably. Natural weeds are planted between the rows to absorb excess moisture and promote microbial life in the soil. Meticulous canopy management is undertaken to ensure aeration and maturation of the bunches.
Winemaking
Traditional Bordeaux vinification took place in temperature controlled stainless steel vats, with careful extraction to obtain velvety and fine tannins. Daily tastings took place to determine the amount of racking required. Part of the wine was aged in oak barrels for one year; the remainder was aged in vats with micro-oxygenation. The goal was to obtain a final blend dominated by the fruit and supported by measured oak nuances.

Brimming with vibrant red fruits and gentle oak spice nuances, this is a beautifully balanced wine with a supple tannins and a smooth finish.
