Producer Note
At Château Lestrille, Estelle Roumage makes modern, fruit-driven wines. They use sustainable winegrowing practices to respect the balance of the soil as they believe the essence of winemaking lies in the vineyard itself. They vinify each plot on their 45 hectare property separately with tailor-made precision. The Château is located at the northern point of the Entre-deux-Mers appellation in the small town of St. Germain du Puch between Libourne and Bordeaux.
Vintage
2012 was a challenging vintage characterised by high rainfall. However, a hot, dry period during the summer, promoted the growth cycle and ripening of the grapes. 2012 was a grower’s vintage; meticulous work in the vineyard reduced the risks of disease pressure and allowed for a harvest of good quality. Harvest dates were carefully chosen, resulting in good fruit with silky tannins.
Vineyard
The vineyards are managed using sustainable viticultural practices. The utmost respect is given to the balance between the vines, their natural environment and the soil. These cool clay-based soils provide good water retention and impart a powerful quality to the resulting wine.
Winemaking
A wine made with the utmost care from the vine to the bottle, this is the result of the Château's top wine-making expertise. Each parcel was vinified separately in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by ageing in carefully selected barriques, enhancing the wine with elegance and complexity. The wine saw further ageing in bottle, prior to release.
Tasting Note
A rich, powerful wine with a beautiful balance between roasted aromas and intense black fruit flavours. Structured, it has velvety tannins and well integrated oak, complemented by complex dark berry flavours, hints of cigar box and a smooth, elegant finish.
Serving Suggestion
An approachable, yet stylish wine that serves as the perfect accompaniment to pan fried steak and Sunday roasts.
