Tasting Note
An outstanding aromatic concentration of ripe red fruits is complemented by toasty and smoky notes, with cocoa and pepper spice from barrel ageing. Complex and powerful, yet fine and elegant, this is a fleshy wine, with silky tannins and perfectly balanced. A wine of great character, with an everlasting finish.
Producer Note
The Lagar de Proventus dream became a reality when three wine protagonists purchased a hillside vineyard in Padilla de Duero. Based in the heart of Ribera del Duero, it sits along the Golden Mile which is home to the most emblematic wineries of Spain. A magnificent 1,500 year-old olive tree acts as a guardian to the estate, which is steeped in a long wine producing history dating back over 300 years. Renowned winemaker Pedro Aibar skillfully combines traditional and contemporary vinification techniques to produce wines of distinction in the avant-garde winery. Tr3smano encapsulates the number of the three founders and is a truly beautiful and harmonious wine, stylishly packaged and at a fraction of the price of some of its illustrious neighbours.
Vintage
2015 was an excellent vintage. A mild, rainy winter was followed by abundant rainfall in spring, which caused a slight delay in flowering. July and August recorded the highest temperatures ever, making the summer very dry and hot. September brought moderate temperatures perfect for grape maturation. The grapes were harvested in excellent health, with superb phenolic ripeness.
Vineyard
The Tempranillo grapes, known locally as Tinta del País, are grown in the following vineyard sites in the DO Ribera del Duero: Olmedillo, Roa, La Horra, Moradillo, Pesquera and Padilla. The vine age varies between 35 and 80 years old, and the soils are a combination of limestone mother rock under clay; and gravel and sand. The climate is extreme continental, with great temperature contrasts between summer and winter. There is a large diurnal temperature range, which is excellent for producing quality grapes; the cool nights extend the ripening period, allowing the grapes to develop rich varietal characteristics while retaining balancing acidity.
Winemaking
The grapes were hand-picked into small boxes, followed by a meticulous selection process and vinified by parcel. They underwent a cold maceration at 5°C for five days prior to fermentation at controlled temperatures in small conical tanks. Malolactic fermentation took place in new 225 litre barrels. The wine was then aged for 18 months in new oak barrels, of which 75% was French oak, 25% American oak.
