2020 will be remembered for its extraordinarily changeable climate. The mild, wet winter generously replenished groundwater reserves, allowing budbreak to occur early. The warm, wet spring beat all records for temperatures and rainfall, stimulating intense growth, good foliage development and early flowering. The typically Mediterranean summer, with the absence of rain and high temperatures, allowed the vines to mature serenely. Harvesting began on August 18th, 10 days ahead of usual, with each variety being picked at optimal maturity. 2020 promises to be an exceptional vintage.
The grapes come from certified organic vineyards, where the use of herbicides and pesticides is strictly forbidden. Predominantly the fruit comes from the Languedoc Roussillon region where the vines benefit from the Mediterranean climate, with long sunshine hours and dry growing season, combined with the cooling influence from the nearby Mediterranean Sea. The result is concentrated fruit with naturally balancing freshness.
Orange Gold was produced using an ancestral winemaking method. Careful berry selection took place to vinify perfectly ripe berries. The grapes were fermented as whole clusters: the maceration with stalks and skins resulted in the remarkable orange colour, with golden reflections and subtle tannins. Blended from seven grape varieties, each variety brought its individual qualities to the blend: Chardonnay, Grenache Blanc and Viognier imparted volume, while Marsanne, Mauzac and Muscat enriched the aromatic complexity of the wine.
A fine, smooth orange wine revealing an explosion of aromas, white floral notes, candied fruit with a touch of white pepper. Aromatic freshness, precise flavours and pleasing balance are underpinned by a lovely rich texture and an attractive bitter note on the finish.
