Producer Note
Domaine des Pourthié is an estate of 60 hectares, situated near Agde, a few kilometres from the Mediterranean. It is now in the hands of the fourth generation of the Pourthié family. The vineyards are located on a ridge formed during the Ice Age, where the soils are gravelly clay and limestone. The Mediterranean warmth and sea breezes combined with the terroir, help to ripen the grapes harmoniously and maximise their aromas. The winery has recently been updated with modern equipment, leading to more sophisticated methods of vinification. These are classically styled Languedoc wines.
Vineyard
The vines are grown in gravelly clay-limestone soil, which was formed during the Ice Age and is spread with deposits from the old Hérault riverbed.
Winemaking
After maceration with skin contact, the grapes were pressed and fermentation took place in a temperature controlled vat at temperatures below 15°C. Malolactic fermentation was prevented resulting in a crisp, fresh style and the wine was then aged on its fine lees for a period of two months adding complexity and texture.
Tasting Note
A dry wine with an elegant hint of butteriness on the nose, refreshing green fruits combined with creaminess on the palate and a lively finish.
Serving Suggestion
Perfect with light and delicate foods, such as shellfish, steamed or grilled fish or a risotto with spring vegetables.

This has been a favourite of ours for a year or so since we tried it in a restaurant. It's a really well priced wine and very smooth to drink. The service from Wine Poole is always brilliant - efficient, professional, friendly. Highly recommended.
