Emilia Romagna
Emilia Romagna Wines
As the name suggests, this was once two distinct regions. Emilia Romagna lies between the River Po and the Apennine Mountains. It is one of the most fertile and productive regions of Italy due to the effect of the Adriatic Sea on the coastal climate. It boasts a large amount of wildlife and has thus become a prime destination for birdwatchers due to the large expanse of marshland and lagoons. Including many DOC regions, Emilia is known for Lambrusco, a misunderstood delicate bubbly red wine, while Romagna’s DOC wines are largely based on the Sangiovese grape.
