Chateldon Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva 2011, Penedes - Magnum

Bodegas Pinord is a family business which was founded 150 years ago. Since then, generation after generation, year after year, the wines produced by the family have been growing in prestige, the indigenous varieties have improved markedly, and the family name has become inseparably linked to the Penedés area where they are based.
The Penedés district is situated between Barcelona and Tarragona, with the mountains of Montserrat marking the border in the north and the Mediterranean in the south east. The soil is varied, contrasting from chalky clay to sandstone with distinct differences in depth so that the vines may take root. The mild Mediterranean climate is ideal for growing vines, indeed there is evidence that the Romans planted vineyards here. The slightly wetter weather in the valleys means that there is no need for irrigation.

Grapes: 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot.

Origin: Coll de Bou Estate.

Vinification: Each grape variety was vinified separately. The grapes were destalked and crushed and then left to macerate on their skins for 10 days before being pressed. Once the wine was clarified, it was blended and then aged in oak casks for 14 months followed by a further 2 years in bottle prior to release.

Appearance: Clean, dark mahogany with reddish-brown overtones.

Taste: Ripe, juicy blackberry fruit with balanced oak and black pepper on the finish. A very accessible style with a lingering finish.
