Producer Note
When Louis Roederer inherited the Champagne House in 1833 he took a visionary approach to enriching his vines, aiming to master every stage of the wine's creation. He forged the wine's unique style, character, and taste. Louis Roederer acquired some of Champagne's grand cru vineyards as he believed all great wine depends on the quality of the soil and a passion for tradition. The Louis Roederer House remains an independent, family-owned company and is now managed by the seventh generation of the lineage. The House of Louis Roederer's annual exports total three million bottles around the world.
Vineyard
'Green harvest' in July to reduce the amount of grapes and thus improve quality. Harvest by hand, usually mid September. Roederer are unusual amongst the great houses of Champagne in having a considerable commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture, around 22% of their holdings: 40 ha in biodynamic and 15 ha in organic.
Winemaking
Included in the blend is 10% of reserve wines, which give Brut Premier its extra dimension. Reserve wines are made up of the best wines from at least 3 former vintages, which are set aside to age in large oak casks (originating in the forests of Chateauroux in central France) in the Reserve Wine Cellar.
