Sula produces modern wines of international standard. Young Indian entrepreneur, Rajeev Samant, believes that India has great potential to produce world class wines so he decided to establish vineyards and a winery in a prime location in Nashik. Sula is currently India’s leading premium wine producer.

Tasting Note: Deep purple colour, spices and smokiness on the nose followed by blackberries and black pepper on the palate. Hints of dark chocolate, vanilla and jammy fruit characters coming through, medium bodied with round tannins.

Variety:               85% Shiraz, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon

Viticulture:          Fruit was sourced from the areas around Dindori, which has hills and gentle slopes. They were hand harvested and the yields were controlled.

Region::               Nashik is located approx. 2000 feet above sea level, to the north of Mumbai, in the Western Ghats mountains. The climate is mild with winters reaching 8-10C and summers 35C, rainfall is high. Similar in climate to the Loire and South Africa.

Soil Type:            Combination of red soil with gravel and clay (high in iron with good drainage)

Winemaker:         Kerry Damskey (award winning winemaker from Sonoma County, California

Fermentation:     The grapes were cold soaked and then fermented between 25° -30° C with regular gentle pump overs. The wine was aged for 2 months in oak before being bottled

Food:                  Spicy dishes, tandoori, red meats
