Tasting Note

Litoral Sauvignon Blanc is fresh and bright, brimming with lime, guava, and passionfruit flavours. A touch of freshly cut green peppers and gooseberry. Full flavoured palate, well balanced and vibrant.

Producer Note

Ventolera is an exciting new venture between founder, Vicente Izquierdo and one of Chile's top winemakers Stefano Gandolini. The vineyards, which were planted in 1999, are located in the cool climate region of the Leyda Valley, just six miles from the Pacific Ocean. The area is being singled out as being Chile's newest and most radical cool climate wine region, which is strongly influenced by the cooling effects of the Humboldt Current that flows up from the Antartic. These cooling influences are instrumental in producing wonderfully elegant wines.

Vineyard

Vertical shoot positioning. Canopy management with 18 shoots per metre to protect fruit exposure (less than 15%) and enhance freshness. Two bunches per shoot. Grapes are picked from two blocks that were planted in 1999 and 2002. The vine row with South East orientation is Block 1 (clone 242). Then with a North East orientation is Block 20 (clone 242).

Winemaking

100% Sauvignon Blanc grapes from 10 year-old vineyards. Hand picked, all grapes were cooled-down to 8°C, in a climate-controlled storage unit. Then the fruit was de-stemmed and sent to a pneumatic press. After pressing the juice was separated into 3 different stainless steel tanks. Soon after cold settling, the juice was racked and inoculated with yeast strains selected to preserve the primary fruit aromas. 100% fermented in small stainless steel tanks at cool temperature, in order to retain fruit flavours and freshness. After fermentation the wine was aged on its lees for three months, then stabilised and carefully prepared for bottling.
