Tasting Note

An elegant and velvety wine showing great freshness and purity of Pinot raspberry fruit combined with a hint of mint.

Producer Note

Ventolera is an exciting new venture between founder, Vicente Izquierdo and one of Chile's top winemakers Stefano Gandolini. The vineyards, which were planted in 1999, are located in the cool climate region of the Leyda Valley, just six miles from the Pacific Ocean. The area is being singled out as being Chile's newest and most radical cool climate wine region, which is strongly influenced by the cooling effects of the Humboldt Current that flows up from the Antarctic. These cooling influences are instrumental in producing wonderfully elegant wines.

Vineyard

The vines are trained vertically with strict water control to moderate vigour and encourage small grapes. Their proximity to the sea ensures a cooling effect which combined with the higher humidity, enhances the fruit flavours in the grapes. Yields are approx 5 tonnes per hectare. All the grapes are hand picked before being taken to the winery.

Winemaking

Hand selected grapes are vinified in stainless steel tanks and then aged in new French oak barrels for 9 months. This wine is un-fined and unfiltered.
