A wonderful perfume of cherry and raspberry with hints of acacia. Complex, well-balanced and expressive with cinnamon and sandalwood notes under the intense red berry flavours.
The Naigeon family has been established in Gevrey Chambertin for more than 150 years. Initially coopers and farmers they acquired some vineyards to produce wine in 1890 and started a wine merchant activity. The estate remained reasonably small until 2003 when Pierre purchased more land increasing their holdings to 11.5 hectares. Pierre Naigeon believes passionately in sustainable farming, without the use of any herbicides. He looks to produce wines full of fragrance, revealing the natural terroir. The average age of his vines is remarkably high, mostly over 50 years. This ensures deep roots, nourishing the vines from many different layers of soil, to produce the most complex wines, and reduces the natural level of cropping, providing more concentrated wines.
The vines are Guyot trained. Organic fertilizers, no herbicides or insecticides. Ploughing , pruning and green harvest.
Hand harvest with selective picking in the vineyard. Cold maceration for one week. Hand plunging and pumping over during alcoholic fermentation which lasts 19 days. The wine is left on the skins for another 9 days. Ageing from 12 months in oak. One racking before bottling. Unfined and unfiltered.
Roast chicken, game birds and grilled pork.
