Doña Paula is a leading, modern winery at the forefront of exploring and investing in new, high quality wine regions in Argentina. Established in 1997, they own all of their vineyards covering 700 hectares. These vineyard sites are located in the best subregions within Mendoza including Ugarteche, Altamira, Gualtallary and Tupungato. The vineyards have always been cultivated using sustainable methods which helps to maximise the true expression of terroir, and in 2019 Doña Paula was certified as a sustainably managed winery by Bodegas de Argentina. Continuous innovation in vineyard management ensures Doña Paula produces top quality wines from one year to the next.
Warm temperatures during spring resulted in early bud break and early flowering. However, the combination of two cold springs in succession in the previous years (2015/16) has resulted in smaller clusters forming in 2017. Excellent weather conditions during the ripening period accelerated the harvest and ensured the grapes were in perfect health when picked. The 2017 vintage will be remembered for its superb quality, flavour concentration and low volume.
The grapes come from Doña Paula’s Los Cerezos Vineyard, which is located in the Cordón del Plata Mountains, in the Tupungato area of the Uco Valley. Situated at 1,000 meters above sea level, the climate presents warm days and cool nights. The region experiences an average temperature variation of 14°C and an average annual rainfall of 280 mm. Good diurnal temperature differences produce berries with concentrated flavours and balancing acidity. The loam soil sits on top of a calcium carbonate layer at approximately one metre below the surface. The vines are trained on espalier systems, using drip irrigation. At Doña Paula, the vineyards have always been managed using sustainable agricultural practices.
The grapes were picked during the third week in February. The must was cooled to reduce the temperature and gently pressed to maintain the vibrant flavours and aromas. Maceration took place until the desired level of varietal characteristics had been transferred from the skin to the must. Alcoholic fermentation was carried out in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the primary aromas and retain the fresh style.
This fresh, attractive Sauvignon Blanc shows intense aromas of yellow grapefruit, lime and passion fruit that are well integrated with notes of white peach. Beautifully balanced on the palate, with great freshness and a long, persistent finish.
Seafood or white meats served in a delicate sauce. Delicious apéritif.
