Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Perrieres Blanc 2015, Domaine Guy and Yvan Dufouleur

A superb white Burgundy showing a touch of honeyed apricot underpinned by mineral and buttery notes, elegant, long and luxuriant.

Producer Note

The Dufouleur family have been merchants since 1596, but it was very recently that the new generation represented by Yvan & Yann decided to start distributing the family estate wines. Yann looks after the export markets; Yvan does the winemaking. The 33 hectares of vineyards extend from Fixin to Santenay and include exclusive ownership of Fixin Clos du Chapitre Premier Cru.

Vintage

The warm 2015 vintage saw excellent conditions throughout the growing cycle and resulted in healthy fruit, with excellent maturity levels and flavour concentration.

Vineyard

Les Perrières is a Premier Cru vineyard in the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation of the Côte de Nuits. The vineyards are farmed using sustainable farming methods known in French as la lutte raisonnée, with the use of natural organic products to protect the environment and preserve the characteristics of the soil and subsoil. Two annual tillings and green harvest take place to limit yields. The 'Simple Guyot' trained vines are grown in limestone based soils, renowned for imparting elegance to the resulting wine.

Winemaking

The grapes were hand picked and sorted manually in the vineyards. A cold maceration took place for one week, followed by traditional vinification. The wine then underwent 12 months ageing in oak casks, of which one third was new.

Tasting Note

This fine white Burgundy, something of a rarity in this area dominated by red wines, shows lovely fresh minerality with fine balanced oak. Powerful and complex developing honey and nutty notes.

Serving Suggestion

A lovely match for lobster or white meaty fish. Also works well with grilled white meats and cheese.

Chardonnay 100%
