Chéreau-Carré is one of the leading Muscadet producers with substantial family owned vineyards in some of the best locations in the region. Their vineyard area totals 267 acres of the highest quality soil, making them one of the largest producers of Muscadet.
The Château de Chasseloir is situated in the St. Fiacre district (the leading Muscadet growing area) and is one of the oldest properties of the area. It has a historic past; originally a feudal Chateau belonging to the count Leloup de Chasseloir. This 15th century Château was destroyed during the French Revolution as the existing remains testify, notably a Gothic tower, which is the emblem of the Chateau.
The storeroom of Chasseloir is unique among wineries with its old carved beams, its Rabelaisian figures, its stained glass windows which tell the story of the vine and its wine and finally its old winemakers' tools. It is a real museum! There are more than 49 acres of vineyards planted on the stony hillsides of the Estate. Some of the vines are more than 100 years old. The wines are bottled “sur lie”. New methods of production, such as the selection of the best grape juice and temperature controlled fermentation combine with traditional methods to obtain the best possible quality.
Grapes: 100% Muscadet also known as Melon de Bourgogne
Vinification In temperature controlled tanks. The wine remains on its lees until bottling. It is drawn off its lees without any preliminary racking.
Taste: A clean, crisp, stylish and well balanced wine with a persistent finish.
Serve: Chilled as an aperitif or with oysters, seafood and shellfish.
