Muscadet de Sevre et Maine Cuvee Chereau Carre 2017 

The Muscadet region extends mainly South East of Nantes near the mouth of the river Loire. The most significant and varied appellation by far, representing four in every five bottles is Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine, named after two small rivers which flow through, this the most monocultural part of the Pays Nantais, South and East of the City of Nantes. Indeed more Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine is produced every year than any other Loire appellation. 

Chéreau-Carré is one of the leading Muscadet producers with substantial family owned vineyards in some of the best locations in the region. Their vineyard area totals 267 acres of the highest quality soil, making them one of the largest producers of Muscadet. The wide variety of ‘terroirs’ available within the estate enables Bernard Chéreau to offer a comprehensive selection of styles including those bottled ‘sur lie’ where the wine is drawn straight off the lees prior to bottling, resulting in a wine with more weight and complexity.


Grapes:            100% Muscadet also known as Melon de Bourgogne


Wine Making:     Traditionally aged as a white dry wine. It is not a “sur lie” wine but is blended before being bottled. The Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Chereau Carre is just racked once before bottling so that the freshness can be kept.


Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Cuvée Chéreau Carré  is in a traditional Muscadet bottle in order to make it different from a generic Muscadet. 


Soil:                 The metamorphic soil is made of schist and gives the wines specific characteristics because of its mineral taste.


Taste:               Clean tasting with crisp acidity and a bright, fresh minerality. It has to be drunk young within the three years of bottling.


Serve:              It is an aperitif wine “par excellence”. It is also appreciated with starters, seafood and fish.
