Domaine René Monnier was founded in 1723. The Domaine is now in the hands of the tenth generation of the family who own 16 hectares of vineyards in the best crus of the Côte de Beaune. Great attention is paid to limiting the yields in the vineyards. This guarantees the best possible quality of juice, with the correct balance between fruit and acidity. René Monnier's wines are well known in three star Michelin restaurants.
Grapes: 100% Chardonnay from 45 year old vines
Harvest: By hand only
Note: The village of Meursault also hosts one of the three glorious feasts of Burgundy during the third weekend of November. On the Monday after the Hospices de Beaune sale some 600 local growers and guests gather at noon for the Paulée de Meursault, an end-of-harvest feast revived in 1920 by Comte Jules Lafon. Everybody brings their own bottles to share with other tables.
Vinification: Traditional Vinification. The wine is aged for thirteen months in oak barrels, of which 30% is new oak.
Colour: Light gold
Taste: Beautiful integration of oak with rich, elegantly styled fruit through to a wonderful long and well sustained finish.
Serve: Chilled with veal in cream sauces, fish and lobster
