Delicate with intense floral aromatics. Succulent sweetness balances the pure acidity in a dry mineral finish.
Mahana embrace certified organic viticulture and minimal input winemaking in their gravity flow winery. A genuine expression of site and season, the wines reflect the artisans who nurture them. The vineyards in the Moutere Hills and the Waimea Plains of Nelson make dynamic, uncompromising wines ushered by the expertise of winemaker, Michael Glover, considered to be one of the top 12 winemakers in Australasia.
The vineyard, which is located at Burkes Bank in Hope, has free-draining Waimea river gravel soils. This low yielding plot has a planting density of 2,800 vines per hectare and produces five tonnes per hectare. The viticulture is completely biodynamic in culture in accordance with the Maria Thuns calendar. The harvest date was 13th April 2014.
Whole clusters were gently pressed over a six hour period. Cool settling of the juice followed for six days. Ambient vineyard yeast fermentation of four months. 15% fermented and matured in very old barriques. Elevage on original yeast lees until assemblage just before bottling by gravity. This wine is unfined.
The perfect match with spicy food, fresh tuna and scallops or rich pâtés.
