Voluptuous and smooth, this wine shows ripe tropical fruit aromas combined with hints of vanilla. Beautifully balanced, with citrus and butterscotch flavours and a smooth long finish.
For five generations the Maggio family has been growing wine grapes in Lodi, and providing elite California winemakers with superb fruit to make their wines. In 2002, the family turned their own hand to winemaking, using the same estate grown fruit that they had sold for so many years. Now they proudly put their name on bottles that reflect their long and uncompromising commitments to sustainable agriculture and winemaking excellence.
The Chardonnay grapes were harvested at 23 to 24° Brix, at optimal ripeness, acidity levels and quality. The grapes were cool fermented at temperatures of between 11 to 13°C, to retain the fresh and fruity characters. The temperature was then increased to between 14 and 15.5°C, to ensure the ferment reached dryness. 75% of the wine was fermented in stainless steel, contributing the fresh fruit characters in the final blend, while 25% was fermented in 70% American oak staves and 30% French oak staves. The wine was aged in both American and French oak staves for four months, with 5% aged for four months in American and French oak barrels. The oak influences impart a soft complexity and mellow creaminess to the final wine.
Ideal with green salads with toasted pine nuts, lightly spiced and peppered roast chicken, cod or shellfish with delicate sauces.
