Remoissenet has the largest cellars of aged Burgundy in the world and until recently has been in the careful hands of Roland Remoissenet. Now under new ownership and the dynamic management of Bernard Repolt and winemaker Claudie Jobard, this famous house is being revitalised exploiting the wonderful aged stocks and introducing their newly styled estate wines from the 2005 vintage. Le Montrachet is the most famous Grand Cru white Burgundy, the apogee of the Chardonnay grape produced from a single vineyard in the Cote de Beaune district of the Cote d’Or. Le Montrachet covers just under 8 hectares straddling the borders of Puligny and Chassagne. Part of the greatness of this wine lies in the limestone soil, and the rest in its perfect south east exposition, which keeps the sun from dawn to dusk. One of the principal owners and producers of Le Montrachet is Baron Thenard whose wine is made by Remoissenet.
Grapes: 100% Chardonnay from the Le Montrachet vineyards
Vinification: The wine was traditionally vinified in French oak barrels. It was then matured in Allier barriques for 12 months of which one third was new oak, followed by a further 6 months in bottle prior to release.
Taste: Considered to be the top Grand Cru of Burgundy, the wine is complex and elegant, with a wonderful bouquet and considerable length. A truly great wine.
Serve: At 12 C with foie gras, and important fish and white meat dishes including lobster.
