Javier Sanz Rey Santo Verdejo/Viura 2016, Rueda

Rueda is the oldest Appellation in the Castilla y León Region, producing mainly white wines. The Verdejo variety is the most famous of the native varieties and has a particular affinity with the areas of La Seca, Rueda and Serrada.

Javier Sanz's family have been winegrowers for four generations. Javier’s great grandfather, Agustín Nanclares, started making wine from the grapes grown in their Villa Narcisa estate.

Javier has 104 hectares of his own vineyard and a modern winery, but maintains that the key to growing good grapes is a traditional relationship between the grower and the vine.

Grapes: A 50/50 blend of Verdejo and Viura grapes, both estate-grown, in the La Seca Vineyard.

Vinification: Temperatures has been strictly controlled to carefully conserve this wine’s exceptional fruit aromas

Colour: Lemony yellow straw colour , clean and bright.

Nose: Complex nose, with immediate green apple fruit and aniseed, followed by a touch of tropical fruits.

Taste: Dry, lush and full of citrus, very broad. Excellent length full of green apple all the time. The Verdejo varietal’s astringency with herbaceous notes combine to give an excellent balance of alcohol and acidity.

Analysis : Total Acidity: 5.0 g/l (tartaric)

Alcohol:   13 % Vol.
