Classic Viognier nose with ripe apricots and pears that follow through on to the palate. Unoaked, the texture is light and lifted and it is balanced with beautifully clean acidity.
Fox Gordon is a family run winery specialising in contemporary, premium and award winning wines from the Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills. Made using the Fox Gordon philosophy of low input and low yield to give maximum flavour, while preserving the inherent qualities of the fruit and the site; these stylish wines are modern, bright and vibrant.
In 2015, Adelaide Hills had the best vintage in a decade. The late season summer to autumn rain that often challenges the Hills was conspicuous by its absence. Excellent weather conditions prevailed at harvest time. The whites are described as having exquisite quality, flavours and amazing natural acidity. The reds are highly aromatic. 2015 was a great vintage.
The grapes come from a single vineyard in the Mount Crawford Forest with stony soils which keep yields low and consistent. The vines are 13 years old and are trained on a double cordon system to keep yields balanced. Viognier has a tendency to ripen unevenly so picking dates are crucial to avoid excess acidity or heavy weighty textures.
The pressing of the grapes was gentle and minimal, in order to keep the acid tight. During vinification lots of lees work took place before and after fermentation, to encourage palate density and mid palate depth. The yeast used during fermentation was wild, which added more complexity to the wine. The wine spent four months on its lees.
Stunning with Middle Eastern influenced salads, but also a classic with roast pork.
