Falanghina Beneventano 2010

Steeped in romantic history, this mountainous region near Naples, under the shadow of Mount Vesuvius, is home to the De Falco Winery. The region produces highly aromatic wines due to the soil and the difference in temperature between day and night. The estate was established by Angelo de Falco and his son Gabriele, in the heart of the Vesuvius National Park.

Falanghina is one of the principal white grape varieties from Campania, and produces rich, floral white wines. The traditional varieties of Greco di Tufo and Fiano di Avellino show characteristic almond aromas with good weight of fruit on the palate. Their Taurasi, made from Aglianico is savoury and spicy; rich and concentrated.

Grapes: 100% Falanghina grown on hillside vineyards around Sannio in the Benevento province of Campania.

Harvest: By hand.

Winemaking: The vinification took place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, with minimal handling in order to maintain the fresh aromas of the grapes. The grapes were cold fermented for 4 to 5 days, followed by 2 week on the lees. No malolactic fermentation took place. The wine had 3 months bottle ageing prior to being released for sale.

Colour: Straw with greenish tinges.

Taste: A dry white wine with a mineral and fruity bouquet of dried apricots, ripe peaches, honey and wild flowers. On the palate the wine is dry, with
undertones of ripe white peaches and balanced acidity.

Serve: Excellent with fish, shellfish and chicken with olives or chilled as an aperitif.
