Domaine de Pourthie is an estate of 60 hectares, situated near Agde, a few kilometres from the Mediterranean. It is now in the hands of the fourth generation of the Pourthié family. The vineyards are located on a ridge formed during the Ice Age, where the soils are gravelly clay and limestone. The Mediterranean warmth and sea breezes combined with the terroir, help to ripen the grapes harmoniously and maximise their aromas. The winery has recently been updated with modern equipment, leading to more sophisticated methods of vinification. The wines are classically styled Languedoc wines
Grapes: 100% Estate grown ChardonnaySoil: Gravelly clay- limestone soil, formed during the Ice Age, spread with deposits from the old Herault riverbed.
Average yield: 60hl/ha
Harvest: Harvesting machine at night, destemming, and slow pressing.
Vinification: After a skin-contact maceration, the grapes are pressed and fermentation takes place in a temperature controlled vat below 15°C. The malolactic fermentation is prevented, then the wine is aged on its fine lees for two months.
Clarification: Natural decantation
Fining: Fish glue + Bentonite
Stabilizing: By refrigeration
Taste: A dry wine with an elegant hint of butteriness on the nose, refreshing green fruits, combined with subtle oak on the palate and a lively finish.
Serve: Chilled, either on its own or as an excellent accompaniment to poultry and fish dishes.
This has been a favourite of ours for a year or so since we tried it in a restaurant. It's a really well priced wine and very smooth to drink. The service from Wine Poole is always brilliant - efficient, professional, friendly. Highly recommended.
