A delicious and characterful dry white, from a very under-rated grape variety.

Tasting Note

A ripe, versatile and approachable dry white from western Sicily. Attractive aromatics of floral peach, tropical fruit and a hint of fennel. The rounded and gently honeyed flavours on the palate are balanced by lemony acidity.

Producer Details

Established in 2003, Adria Vini is a winemaking venture jointly owned by Boutinot and Araldica Castelvero, the leading co-operative in the Monferrato hills of Piemonte. The aim is to produce authentic, well-priced still and sparkling wines from local grape varieties. All aspects of production, from grape selection through to vinification, maturation, blending and bottling are meticulously overseen by Araldica's winemaking team of Claudio Manera, Lella Burdese and Carlo Manera - assisted by Boutinot's Tony Brown MW. Production is 12 million bottles annually and the wines are exported to more than 20 countries worldwide. They source from a range of private growers and cooperatives, with whom they have long term relationships, principally in Veneto, Friuli, Lombardy, Sicily, Puglia, Abruzzo and Sardinia.

In The Vineyard

Catarratto is the most planted white grape in western Sicily, producing both Marsala and dry white wines. This wine is a blend of two components, one from near the town of Marsala, the other, from the Catarratto ‘Lucido’ clone, from hillside vineyards at 600m altitude near Alcamo.

In The Winery

Gentle pressing, cool, slow fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks using selected yeasts. The wine was bottled young after a short period of ageing on fine lees in stainless steel.

Food Recommendations

Ideal as an aperitif or to accompany seafood, grilled fish, salads and cold white meats.
