An ethereal mixture of Suider Terras origins of Fynbos, herbs and mineral flint, lime and chalk with subtle hints of wax. The Semillon fleshes out the Sauvignon Blanc, taming the acidity. The wine will develop in complexity over the following three to five years, developing a plush mid palate.
Stunning, world-class Sauvignon Blanc has put the Bloemendal Wine Estate firmly on the map as a sought after producer among world wines. Situated in the heart of picturesque Durbanville just 30 minutes north of Cape Town, the 239 hectare Estate includes Kanonberg Mountain. This hilltop has amazing views of Table Mountain, False Bay, Stellenbosch, Swartland and beyond. It is here on the Southern Slope or "Suider-Terras" where the vineyards are planted with French cultivars, predominantly Sauvignon Blanc. The eponymous wine "Suider Terras" has been hailed as arguably the best Sauvignon Blanc in South Africa, having gained worldwide prominence for its superior quality since the first bottling in 1987. We are delighted to offer this new precise range of wines from this top notch boutique winery.
The 2013 vintage was characterised by a wet winter and a warm summer. The risk of rot during harvest time was threatened by the humid weather conditions, but the growers who successfully waited for drier conditions have produced quality wines.
The deep red soils are predominantly heavy Hutton clay, with the remainder comprising Tukulu, Oakleaf and Westleigh soil types. They are deep, cool and well drained, but with good water retention, allowing minimal irrigation, so nature can take its course and let the terroir shine through.
The Sauvignon Blanc originates from the Suider Terras block. Barrel fermented and blended with the Semillon after the fermentation was complete. The blend, 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Semillon was then aged in 500 litre French oak barrels for ten months prior to a light fining and bottling.
Fantastic served chilled on its own, or equally as delicious with salads, white meats in creamy sauces and grilled fish.
