Grape Varieties: 100% Chenin blancOptimum Drinking: Within 3 yearsWine Style: SparklingAlcohol by Volume: 12%Country: France
The town of Saumur lies 40KM east of Angers on the southern bank of the river Loire and gives its name to an extensive wine district and several appellations. Saumur is effectively a south western extension of Touraine, yet more a centre for the wine trade of Anjou-Saumur than is Anjou. The grapes grown in these two neighbouring regions are very similar, except that Saumur does not have Anjou's range of potentially great sweet white wines.
Grapes: Chenin blanc
Colour: Pale yellow
Vinification: In temperature controlled tanks. The wine is then bottled and second fermentation takes place in bottle following the Champagne method known as traditional method or classic method. This is the most meticulous way of making wine sparkle.
Serve: Chilled at 8 to 10C with shellfish, fish or as an aperitif
Taste: A dry, good flavoured Loire sparkler with a long finish. An ideal summer sparkling wine
