The story of Bodegas Pinord started more than 150 years ago, when the Tetas family began to make wines on their estate in Penedes. They have now extended their family expertise to the heartland of Priorat, renowned for producing bespoke cult wines. Their Mas Blanc estate lies on steep slatey slopes, where the grapes are organically grown and hand harvesting is obligatory. A variety of different grapes are grown here, all benefiting from the night and day temperature variances which allows them to achieve great complexity. The winery is kitted out with all of the newest vinification equipment along with 250 new French, American and Bulgarian oak barriques.
Produced from: 35% Garnacha, 30% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Cariñena. The different varieties are harvested into separate boxes after different ripening controls. When they arrive at the cellar they go to the selection table and then on to the feeder. From the feeder, using a conveyor belt in order not to spoil the grape, they move on to the fermentation vats. They ferment and macerate there for about a month, when the wine is then removed and the grape paste pressed. A small quantity of the pressed wine goes to the press house. Once it is fermented and decanted, the wine is stored in barrels. These are mainly French oak barrels although some are made of American oak. The wine remains in the barrels for 14 months, when is then decanted to clear the wine. It is then bottled to continue its aging process in the bottle.ORGANOLEPTIC ANALYSISAPPEARANCE.
Robust and powerful, the first nose picks up the intense rum notes from the barrel. Afterwards other ripe and preserved fruit aromas emerge. Spicy characteristics can also be discovered, peppery with a slight metallic touch. The aroma is intense and as it is oxygenated honeyed fruits come through from its alcoholic strength.TASTE.
It is full and vigorous in the mouth with persistent, slightly acidic tannins. There is also forest fruit preserve. It is a wine with a long life, its potential is yet to develop. In the bottle the tannins soften and the wine becomes more pleasant and smooth. The 2005 vintage is drinking very well now.
