Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des Chenes" 2013 - Domaine Rene Monnier

Domaine René Monnier was founded in 1723. The Domaine is now in the hands of the tenth generation of the family who own 16 hectares of vineyards in the best crus of the Côte de Beaune. Great attention is paid to limiting the yields in the vineyards. This guarantees the best possible quality of juice, with the correct balance between fruit and acidity. René Monnier's wines are well known in three star restaurants.

Volnay is an attractive small village in the Côte de Beaune district of Burgundy's Côte d'Or producing elegant red wines from the Pinot Noir grape. René Monnier's 1er Cru vineyard " Clos de Chenes" is just 0.74 hectares in size

Grapes: 100% Pinot Noir grapes from the 0.74 hectare Clos des Chenes vineyard

Vinification: High temperature fermentation in oak barrels with extended maceration on skins to extract maximum colour

Ageing: 16 months in French oak barrels. 1/3 of the wine was aged in new oak

Colour: Intense ruby red

Taste: René Monnier's red wines are the epitome of fine Burgundy showing integrated oak and firm but fine tannins on the finish, demonstrating the balanced silky style of this house.

Serve: At 15°C to accompany roast red meats, lamb and duck
