Domaine Courbis dates from the 16th century and has been handed down from father to son since the start of the 20th century. The vineyards currently extend to 20 hectares (3Ha in Cornas, 4Ha Saint Joseph white and 13Ha Saint Joseph red) in the communes of Châteaubourg and Cornas. 18 hectares are planted on hillsides facing south and west.The wine cellar, built in 1980, is modern and is equipped temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. The wines of Domaine Courbis are of extremely high quality and are exported to Belgium, United Kingdon, the USA and Switzerland.
Grapes: 100% Syrah from the 4 hectare "Les Royes" vineyard that is entirely south-facing and is situated at the edge of the Cornas wine growing area.
Winemaking: The grapes are hand harvested, destemmed and lightly pressed. Vinification takes place in sealed temperature controlled stainless steel tanks at 30-32C.Maceration lasts 10 days.
Ageing: Aged for 18 months in French oak vats and casks (90% in 2-3 year old barrels and 10% in new oak). The wine is regularly and frequently racked.
Production: Approx. 3500 bottles per annum.
Serve: At room temperature to accompany roast meats and poultry
Taste: This wine is intensely coloured with ripe blackcurrant fruit and big but integrated tannins. Superb quality.
