Puglia, the heel of the Italian boot is a long flat region with prolific production of both wine and table grapes as well as olive oil and is an important agricultural region.South of Brindisi lies the Salento peninsula that extends towards Albania and Greece and is Italy’s easternmost point. The finest wines are produced in the Salento peninsula where the soil is red on a calcareous base. Though the climate is hot it is not torrid, thanks to the cooling influence of breezes coming off the Adriatic and Ionian seas.Cantina San Marzano is situated near Taranto in Puglia and more precisely in the northern area of the Salento peninsula. The Cooperative has 1,500 members whose majority of the 500 hectares of vineyards fall within the Primitivo di Mandura DOC appellation. The winery produces modern styled wines and is part of the San Marzano Group.
