Rasteau "Les Sambiches" Cotes du Rhone Villages 2009 - Andre Brunel

Domaine André Brunel is a family owned Estate comprising of 22 hectares in Chateauneuf du Pape and 11 hectares in the Cotes du Rhone. Brunel's hallmark is fruit emphasis with balanced tannins and the fruit flavours lingering through to a long finish.

The "Rasteau" comes from a large Domaine in the Appellation. The wine was made from the fruit of some of the best hillside vineyards, where 40 year old Grenache vines and 20 year old Syrah reach a perfect maturity.

Grapes: 75% Grenache & 25% Syrah

Age of Vines: 40 year old for Grenache and 20 year old for Syrah

Harvest: By hand at the end of September/early October at optimal ripeness of the grapes.

Vinification: The grapes were sorted, de-stemmed and crushed. Each varietal was vinified separately.
Fermentation took place in temperature controlled vats lasting 21 days with a daily stirring. The Syrah was then aged for 14 months in French oak barriques (1/3 new wood. 1/3in 1 year old and 1/3 in 2 year old). The Grenache was left to mature in vat. After 14 months the wines were blended and bottled.

Serve: At room temperature with grilled and roast red meats and cheese.

Taste: Rich colour, full nose and palate showing forward style fruit.  Ripe with a touch of balanced oak. Good fruit, ripe tannins, good length, spicy and very fine.
